How to get ready for the next electricity crisis

In July 2006 the price of electricity in the power exchanges of the continental market (France, Germany and the Netherlands) doubled with respect to the preceding month. The average monthly price of the three power exchanges was above 90 euros per megawatt per hour and the price spike even reached 999,92 euros/MWh the 26 th at noon in France. The reason was a shortage of electricity supply with respect to a peak in demand induced by the high summer temperatures. Since the trend towards a larger diffusion of air conditioning is certainly continuing, a similar event may be expected again. Continue reading »
